Yvonne Jean Mcghie

July 29, 1933 — April 21, 2024

We come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Yvonne Jean McGhie, affectionately known as Kitty, a strong and courageous women who left us peacefully on April 21, 2024, in Manchester, Connecticut. Born on July 29, 1933, in beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica, Yvonne's journey through life was marked by her intelligence, courage, and generosity.
Yvonne's early life was spent in the lush landscapes of Jamaica, where she began her lifelong love affair with knowledge and culture. She completed some college education and was a stenographer early on. She pursued and vocation in nursing/care giving during her years in England, she dedicated most of her life to caring for others.
In her personal life, Yvonne was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Rudyard Kipling McGhie, and is survived by her children Gary, Ouida and Garth Carrington, Natalie, Richard, Tyrone, Avia, and Wayne Asman; her grandchildren Theodore and Richard, Natasha and Bianca, Jeremy, and Sasha; and great-grandchildren Brianti, Brevory, Amani, Neveah, Xamien. Yvonne's family was the center of her world, and she was the glue that bound them together with her unwavering support and love.
Yvonne was a creator of beauty through words. Her love for poetry culminated in the publication of a song/poem, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of experiencing her work. Her determination and resilience shone through as she moved her family across continents-from Jamaica to England, Canada, and finally, America-seeking a better quality of life for her loved ones.
Yvonne's interests were as varied as they were rich. She found joy in the melodies classical music such as Tchaikovsky and the challenges of cross-stitching, sudoku, and trivia-where she reigned supreme. Her culinary skills were unmatched, especially when it came to baking her famous "pink cake," a treat cherished by family and friends alike. A politically aware individual, Yvonne championed women's empowerment and found strength in her Catholic faith, which offered her solace in times of adversity.
As the sun greeted her each morning, Yvonne found beauty of the ordinary, finding delight in the simple pleasures of life. Her intelligence was matched only by her courage and generosity, qualities that touched everyone she met.
Yvonne's life was a testament to the power of hope and perseverance. As Helen Keller once said, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." Yvonne embodied this spirit, overcoming challenges with grace and leaving a legacy of love and resilience.
Today, we honor a woman whose life was a tapestry of caring, creativity, and courage. Yvonne Jean McGhie, our beloved mother and friend, will be remembered not only for the life she lived but also for the countless lives she touched with her kindness and compassion. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as she loved to feel the morning sun upon her face, her love will continue to rise, reminding us of the light she brought into the world.
